BLASTS FROM THE PAST

Hello. A friend of mine posted a link to the article (“Gimme 20–The 20 most memorable bands from the last 20 years on the county’s club scene,’’ Oct. 9-15) on Facebook. Nice to think back about some of these bands, but the information about Dura-Delinquent is not correct.

Members of the band used to put on shows in Monterey, mostly at the World stage on Lighthouse Avenue, across the street from Recycled Records, where two of the band members worked. The Bikini Kill show that was mentioned regarding the Amazon Mollies was booked by members of Dura-Delinquent, although at that time most of them were in a band named Half Sister, and another band, Lazy Dragon. They also put a few shows on at the youth center in Carmel. The band that rose from Sand City to see success was Starlite Desperation. They should have made the list. Each of their records have been fantastic.

BALLOTS, NOT ECONOMIC BULLETS…

I appreciate the editorial support for the ballot propositions (April 30-May 6) and believe you have captured not only the difficulty of being enthusastic, but also the reality of impacts should the measures fail. I also appreciate the connection with and focus on the relationship of the two-third threshold vote requirement and essential reform.

A recent edition of The Herald carries a Dan Walters’ story predicting further doom and gloom for the state.

I fear we are entering another deep hole for the state and guaranteed impasse based on the dysfunctional budget-making system.

Again, thanks for capturing what I believe to be a pragmatic and realistic sense of the choices facing voters and the state. - Assemblymember Bill Monning | Carmel
