Missing Measure G campaign signs found in a ravine.
Monday, November 2, 2009
About 14 missing signs in favor of Measure G, the Nov. 3 ballot measure for Carmel Valley incorporation, have been found.
During a Sunday morning hike, local doctor Paul File and his son chanced on the 8-by-4-foot signs, which were strewn in a riverbed below a 75-foot drop just east of Carmel Valley Village. Several days earlier, pro-G activists had reported their campaign signs stolen. File reported the find to police.
Cmdr. Tracy Brown of the Monterey County Sheriff's Office said the signs have been recovered and returned to the people who reported them stolen. But the discovery didn't provide any leads about the theft.
"We haven't been able to tie them to anybody," Brown says. "We floated them back across the river, so it was impossible to get prints off of them. There's nothing left for us to follow up on, unless somebody comes forward with more information."
