Water Wait
Judge pauses state water board's cease-and-desist order.

The state can wait – and in the meantime, the Peninsula's water supply will flow as usual.
Superior Court Judge Kay Kingsley granted the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District's request to stop the state Water Resources Control Board from enforcing an Oct. 20 cease-and-desist order that limits overpumping from the Carmel River.
On Oct. 27, MRWMD filed a lawsuit arguing the order threatens public health and saftey. California American Water has also challenged the order.
In granting MRWMD's request for a stay, Kingsley noted that the state did not file any objections. The order will remain on pause until the lawsuit is resolved.
