Healthy Debate

Dems get key votes to ensure Senate debate on reforms.

U.S. Senate Democrats now have the 60 votes needed to take healthcare legislation to the floor.

Sens. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) and Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) agreed not to block the debate, but both senators have expressed some ambilvalence about the proposed bill and have not promised to vote for it.

The House of Representatives passed its version of the bill in mid-November, including a controversial anti-abortion amendment.
