Seaside POA to consider vote of no confidence in interim police chiefs, city manager.

The drama between Seaside city management and police commanders is apparently affecting morale among the city's rank-and-file cops.

On Thursday night the Seaside Police Officers Association will consider a motion to hold a vote of no confidence in Interim Police Chief Steve Willis, Interim Deputy Executive Officer Don MacQuarrie and City Manager Ray Corpuz.

The two interim chiefs, representing the top two positions in the police department, have each been scrutinized for their qualifications at the time of hire. The city manager is under investigation after suspended Police Chief Steve Cercone filed a grievance against him. While Cercone remains on paid administrative leave, Corpuz continues to report to work.

If the motion is approved, POA members will vote by ballot, a process that can take more than a week.
