Bailey Gets Nod
Steinbeck Center names interim director
Tuesday, September 15, 2009
After an offer to a retired nonprofit executive fell through, the National Steinbeck Center has named Colleen Bailey, chief programs officer, as interim director, a board member says.
The Steinbeck Center offered the interim post to John N. Bailey, the center's vice chair of strategic planning and former executive director of Sept. 11 legal group Trial Lawyers Care, but he rejected the offer.
"The board wants to move quickly but at the same time we have certain aspects that we have to pay attention to, financial and otherwise," says Tom Honig, an executive committee member on the center's board. Honig says he is extremely confident in Colleen Bailey's leadership.
The board plans to continue its search for a permanent director after former CEO and President Steve Hoffman resigned Sept. 2. Read more in Thursday's Weekly.
