April Fools Day is Over

We're Back, 100% In Print and Online

WE'RE STILL HERE, IN PRINT AND ONLINE Dear Reader,

It is not every year that April 1 falls on a Thursday, so when it does we at the paper try not to waste the opportunity to give humor a little elbow room. Thanks to all the readers who went along as we ventured on a April Fools joke that was part War of the Worlds cataclysm and part social commentary on the state of media industry. We had fun, we hope we didn't wind anyone up too much. Based on the huge volume of emails, voicemails and comments to the website we learned a few things:
  1. A whole heck of a lot people read the paper and the newsletter.
  2. Not everyone reads it equally critically.
  3. Our employees are well liked. Most of them got offered jobs yesterday --not newspaper jobs, but jobs none the less.
  4. Even our enemies would (kind of) miss us if we were gone.
The link below will take you to the comment section of the website where you can read the reactions of a sample of folks, such as:
"Who does this? Please reconsider. Can't you just print fewer pages or go once a month? i can't get on the library computer for more than a half hour a day and my cell phone contract just got canceled." Farflight "Without the Weekly, where would we go for those stupid April Fools jokes ?  Oh ... I get it !" Bryan Ashby

Just so we're clear: we're not going anywhere. See you at the same spot next Thursday. Happy April 2.
