Local Scofflaws

Two locals make list of California's top 250 delinquent taxpayers.

David Nilsen, who was indicted for running a gigantic Ponzi scheme as head of Cedar Funding, and retired Fresno RV salesman Danny Gamel, now of Pebble Beach, made the Franchise Tax Board's annual list of the state's biggest tax scofflaws.

Nilsen and his wife owe more than $700,000 in personal income tax, while Gamel is on the hook for nearly $400,000.

In publishing the annual list, state tax authorities note that the tax burden on everyone else rises when taxpayers don't pay what they owe.

Anyone who owes state taxes can come clean by calling 866-418-3702 for personal income taxes or 866-914-5594 for business taxes.
