Star Gazing

Jack Kerouac tribute draws a galaxy of Hollywood standouts for inspired show

It’s been a foggy summer in Big Sur, but the stars were out for a screening of the Jack Kerouac documentary One Fast Move Or I’m Gone: Kerouac’s Big Sur this Saturday evening at the Henry Miller Library.

Actor Edward Norton, actress/musician Zooey Deschanel, One Fast Move director Curt Worden, eclectic music producer Jim Sampas, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea and members of Beat Generation icon Neal Cassady’s family took in a performance by Ben Gibbard (from popular alt rock band Death Cab For Cutie) and Jay Farrar (of alt country act Son Volt) as they played stripped down acoustic versions of the songs they wrote for the movie’s soundtrack.

Following the hour-long batch of songs, the film was shown on a large screen under the redwoods to the sold-out crowd.
