Campaign Tally

Alejo tops Barnes in campaign contributions

Assembly candidate Luis Alejo raised more than $37,000 in the latest filing period, topping Salinas Councilwoman Janet Barnes, his main opponent in the 28th District Democratic race. Barnes raised just over $29,000. The period covers between July 1 and Dec. 31, 2009.

Alejo, who is holding a campaign kickoff in Salinas' Sherwood Park tomorrow, brought in big contributions from Mi Pueblo San Jose Inc. ($3,900) and Operating Engineers Local 3 ($2,500).

Barnes collected two installments of $3,900 (one for primary and one for general election) from Corralitos residents Kenneth and Gabrielle Adelman and $2,500 from the California Farm Bureau Political Action Committee.
