Land Swap?

Lutes: county wants to trade land for soccer complex property

Salinas City Councilwoman Jyl Lutes is ticked off at the county for wanting to swap a city-owned parking lot in downtown for land where a sports authority wants to build a soccer complex.

"We can't give away a valuable piece of land," Lutes says referring to a parking lot on Alisal Street. "They are asking us to do that."

Lutes says all Monterey County children would benefit from the project, which would be located north of existing soccer fields on Constitution Boulevard and include an outdoor soccer stadium and nine new fields. "This is a fabulous opportunity for us to expand the soccer fields and have a real quality soccer field," Lutes says.
