City, county eye redevelopment expansion, soccer complex, new jail
Thursday, February 18, 2010
Salinas and Monterey County will collaborate on dramatically expanding the city's redevelopment areas, closing a land deal for proposed soccer complex and finding a location to build a new county jail, Mayor Dennis Donohue and Board of Supervisors Chairman Simon Salinas said today in a joint speech.
The City Council will receive an initial report on the redevelopment area expansion on March 2, Donohue said. By the end of the month, officials said, the city and county will work out a deal so that the Salinas Regional Sports Authority can take over county-owned property on Constitution Boulevard to pursue state funding for the soccer complex.
