Storm Draining

Worst of storm is over, forecaster says

Yesterday's heavy downpours and frequent lightning strikes aren't expected to hit the county today or the rest of the week, says Monterey-area National Weather Service forecaster Brian Tentinger. "For the most part, the rains and the wind are done," Tentinger says.

Sporadic showers and thunder did return shortly after Tentinger's forecast. Going back to Monday night, between 500 to 600 bolts of lightning have struck the area, he says. Up to 10am this morning, 24-hour rainfall totals reached nearly an inch in Monterey, up to 4.8 inches at Mining Ridge.

Chances of rain will become less and less through the weekend with another storm approaching Monday or Tuesday, Tentinger says.
