P.G. Debates Pot
The Pacific Grove City Council mulls medical pot.

The Pacific Grove City Council voted unanimously for a 45-day moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries in town at its Wednesday, Jan 20 meeting.
"I encouraged them to vote for it, because it's a time period for them to come up with regulations," says Daniel Maniscalco, whose request to open a P.G. dispensary sparked the debate. "It sounds like they want to talk and they're willing to talk," Maniscalco says.
"We'll take a real good look at it, and see if it will fit," says City Councilman Alan Cohen. "It made me feel good to find there was an open-mindedness in the community." Still, Cohen says the idea faces some opposition. The city's police chief expressed concerns as did several members of the public.
He says the council will consider the strengths and weaknesses of regulations already in place in cities across California.
Maniscalco has hired an attorney who he says is willing to help the city with crafting rules, and reports that he has already identified a couple of potential P.G. locations for a medical marijuana dispensary.
