Republican Sam Blakeslee's camp says rival Democrat John Laird's positive spin on his performance in the June 22 primary—he came in eight percentage points behind Blakeslee—is "just plain silly".
Democratic blogger Steven Maviglio has hit back, saying Blakeslee is not the moderate he portrays himself to be, citing the zero rating he scored from NARAL pro-choice America, 13 percent from the Consumer Federal of America and a 25 percent lifetime rating from the California League of Conservation Voters.
Meanwhile, Laird has challenged Blakeslee to debate, and Blakeslee has accepted, according to Laird's website.
