Los Lobos will perform at Sand City's West End Celebration.

A "VERY, VERY special guest" performance was promised for Sand City's 8th West End Celebration, taking place Aug. 20-22 this year, extended to celebrate Sand City's 50th anniversary. At a press party Thursday, July 8, at Sand City's contemporary Sylvan Design gallery, it was announced that, in addition to Friday's fundraiser performance by White Album Ensemble, Saturday's line-up of indie up-and-comers Persephones Bees, Brazilian samba troupe Sambada, Namoimi Wilder and Victory Sweet, hip-hop rockers Forrest Day and the kids of Population 5, and following Sunday's energetic Red Beans & Rice, Los Lobos will play a free concert.
The longstanding Tex-Mex rock legends are playing in support of the nonprofit Guitars Not Guns program, which enlists at-risk youth to take up free guitar lessons, capped by the gift of a free guitar, to steer them away from the streets and gangs. Music coordinator Steve Vagnini, who made the booking happen, said that the band will also mix it up with kids in a community outreach effort, instead of just "doing a concert."
