Monterey Hires
City of Monterey hires two new managers.
Friday, July 23, 2010
The City's current library director gets a promotion. Kim Bui Burton will head a new Community Services Department, with many of the city's highest profile facilities in her portfolio, including the Monterey Conference Center, Monterey Sports Center, the city harbor and marina, parking, community centers and parks and rec programs. Pending Library Board and City Council approval, Bui Burton will also oversee the Monterey Public Library.
Former Pebble Beach Company Exec and ex-interim Monterey Convention and Visitor's Bureau chief steps up to consult with the city on issues related to the Monterey Conference Center. Some downtown business leaders, who have been frustrated by the city center's slow economic progress, had demanded that someone with business expertise take a close look at how it can better serve Monterey. City officials report that in the next three months, Cowdrey will conduct an audit, evaluate rehab or expansion plans and weigh the possibility of privatization.
