Foreclosure Dip

Report: County foreclosures drop in January and February

Notices of default, the first step in the foreclosure process, and trustee deeds, the final step,  both dropped in Monterey County when comparing January and February totals to the same months last year, according to a report from the county Treasurer-Tax Collector's Office.

The reports says notices of defaults were down about 38 percent, from 923 last year to 576 this year, and trustee deeds decreased about 22 percent, from 514 in 2009 to 397 in 2010.

Notices of foreclosure sales rose: "The increase…which is up 10.11 percent does indicate taht perhaps some sales postponed in 2009 are now going forward," writes analyst Scott Walker.
