Committee to examine how Salinas does business
Monday, March 8, 2010
An overarching Salinas budget committee plans to take a thorough look at how the city is organized and search for ways to more effectively deliver services, whether through outsourcing or public-private partnerships, committee members say.
"Where I hope we are going to find some nuggets is in work analysis," says Mark Drever, chairman of the Blue Ribbon Community Budget Review Committee.
Drever says the committee will synthesize the budget savings ideas presented by various groups, including a committee lead by pro- and anti-Measure K chairs Brett Landon and Steve Ish. The blue-ribbon committee has four public meetings scheduled March 17-20 to hear from city departments, commissions and community groups.
Mayor Dennis Donohue appointed the 23 committee members, who will make recommendations to address the city's more than $10 million gap for next fiscal year and also steer the city toward long-term financial stability.
