San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom runs for Lt. Gov.

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom joined the race for Lieutenant Governor today, Friday, March 12, according to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/cityinsider/detail?entry_id=58967

The office remains vacant since State Sen. Abel Maldonado failed to gain confirmation in the State Assembly last month. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has re-nominated him to the post, but the Legislature has not yet taken up the second nomination.
