Raley's Pays

Nob Hill grocery parent company pays more than $500,000 to settle lawsuit over workers compensation.

Monterey County District Attorney Dean Flippo is one of six county prosecutors who announced the settlement Monday, May 3.  The DAs sued Raley's, which owns two Nob Hill stores—in Salinas and Monterey—when an investigation revealed that some company managers tried to dissuade workers who were injured on the job from filing workers compensation claims.

The company has agreed to change its practices by conducting mandatory training for store managers, improving its record keeping, and hiring an outside firm to evaluate on the job injuries and recommend treatment.

Monterey County's share of the settlement is some $100,000, which will go to fund other consumer related investigations and lawsuits, according to a spokeswoman for the DA's office.
