Meg Caldwell of Center for Ocean Solutions testifies at Senate hearing on Gulf oil spill.
Tuesday, May 11, 2010
Monterey isn't so far from the Gulf of Mexico, after all.
Meg Caldwell, executive director of Monterey's Center for Ocean Solutions, is testifying today to the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works about the environmental impacts of the catastrophic Gulf oil spill that continues to gush off the coast of Louisiana.
A live webcast is broadcasting the hearing in real time. Caldwell's complete testimony is available here.
Caldwell, a Stanford law professor and former chair of the California Coastal Commission, was part of last December's COS delegation to the international climate talks in Copenhagen, where they debuted their multimedia short, Oceans +2C, about the potentially catastrophic impacts of a 2-degree-Celsius global temperature rise on the world's seas.
Caldwell has also made waves by pressuring California policymakers to confront the reality of sea level rise.
