What creative ways do you prepare for an earthquake?

Asked at Wharf Two in Monterey.

Follow-up: If you had to leave your home, what would you carry with you?

TOM NICHOLS | Retiree | Oklahoma

A: I work on my balance. You don’t feel good when the solid ground under you is shaking.

Fanny Pack: A bag of important stuff – cards, medication, a pair of scissors, magic marker, and a knife. That will get you through most stuff.

KAT MALDONADO | House cleaner | Shaver Lake

A: Remove all glass items from shelves and walls. I would have water purification tablets on hand for fresh water.

A Survivor: A backpack with two tin plates, a folding shovel, antibacterial hand gel, a solar blanket, and self-charging flashlight. Trail bars and jerky, bouillon cubes, and a piece of plastic (for catching water).

LARRY ANDREATTI | Retiree | Sacramento

A: Blankets. Shelter: tents and tarps for protection against the weather.

Full Belly: Canned food and energy bars, food supplies that last. And a cell phone.
