Bachofner not ready to claim victory in Seaside mayoral race.
Tuesday, November 9, 2010
At latest count, Seaside mayoral challenger Felix Bachofner was still ahead of three-term incumbent Ralph Rubio. But Bachofner isn’t popping the champagne until all the remaining ballots are counted.
As of Nov. 5, Bachofner held a 114-vote lead, giving him about 51 percent to Rubio's 49 percent.
But Linda Tulett, the county registrar of voters, says almost 30,000 ballots from the Nov. 2 election remain to be counted throughout the county, including about 4,700 provisional ballots and 3,300 that were damaged or erroniously marked. (The number is not broken down by city, so it's unclear how many Seaside votes remain.)
Elections staff tally and update the results every Friday. Tulett hopes the last of the ballots will be counted by Nov. 19.
