Supes approve September Ranch (again).
Tuesday, November 9, 2010
The County Board of Supervisors approved September Ranch by a 3-2 vote today, with Jane Parker and Dave Potter dissenting. The approval includes 190 conditions on the project.
The controversial Carmel Valley development, a subdivision consisting of 73 market-rate and 22 affordable lots, has been in and out of the courts for years, recently over the issue of water. The supes last approved the project in 2006.
"The courts say that the September Ranch aquifer is separate from the Carmel Valley Aquifer, and that it should have an 'imperceptible effect on the Carmel Vally River and aquifer.' The court agreed," reads an email from Christine Williams of the Carmel Valley Association, which opposes the project.
"If this project gets built, and if the County and [Monterey Peninsula Water Management District] follow through with their oversight, it appears that the restrictions and conditions will be enough to keep it from over-taxing the water. There are serious restrictions on this development, especially as it concerns landscaping, water use, monitoring, deed restrictions for future owners, etc."
