Insurance Accord
CHOMP inks new two-year deal with Anthem Blue Cross.
Monday, November 29, 2010
The agreement entitles thousands of Monterey County public employees and others access to Commmunity Hospital and Natividad Medical Center at the lowest level of co-pays and deductibles available, according to a CHOMP statement.
Apparently, no such deal has been struck with Aetna. In an email, a CHOMP spokeswoman writes, "We have invited Aetna to re-open the dialogue about a a reasonable approach to managing costs while maintaining quality."
In recent months, local hospitals, including CHOMP have reported that major insurors have pressured them to lower costs before signing new agreements.
CHOMP President and CEO Steven Packer says in a statement, "The signing of this agreement was made possible because of Community Hospital's significant efforts in reducing healthcare costs."
Those insured by the California Public Employee Retirement System and the Monterey County School Insurance Group as well as Monterey Peninsula College and Pebble Beach Company employees will benefit from the agreement which goes into effect in January, the statement notes.
