Vanishing Vehicle Valuables

Marina PD: Watch out for car burglars.

More than a dozen Marina car owners woke up last week to find their car window smashed and valuables missing from the vehicle. Between Sept. 27 and Sept. 30, 16 car break-ins were reported, according to Marina police.

Police spokesman Lt. Rick Janicki says in all of the incidents, the burglars broke a car window and reached in to grab valuables from the car, such as wallets, iPods and CDs.

"It is either a person or persons out looking for an easy mark," says Janicki.

Most of the incidents occurred during the early morning hours in the south side of the city between Reservation Road and Reindollar Avenue and between Bayer Drive and Messenger Drive. Police are seeking information from residents to solve the crimes.

Janicki says people should take all their valuables with them, lock their car doors, and keep their cars clean so potential burglars will see there is nothing worth taking. He also says residents should be on alert and call the police if they see anything suspicious.

"We encourage people to be really nosy-- we like nosy neighbors," Janicki says.
