Election Sprint
Local heavyweights turn out to stump for Props. 21 and 22.

With a two-week timer ticking down to the Nov. 2 election, local notables are throwing their weight behind two state propositions in particular: Prop. 21, the vehicle license fee surcharge to support state parks; and Prop. 22, which would end state borrowing from local government coffers.
At 10am on Wednesday, Oct. 20, the Yes on 22 camp will stump behind Salinas City Hall, featuring local officials "wearing boxing gloves to symbolize they’re fighting back against Sacramento politicians who are taking local revenues," according to the campaign's press release. Speakers include:
- Dennis Donohue, Salinas Mayor
- Eddie Rodriguez, Marina Police Chief
- Mike Kanalakis, Monterey County Sheriff
- Stephany Aguilar, League of California Cities Board of Directors
Several other local mayors and city council members are also expected at the event.
A half hour later, the Yes on 21 campaign will bring a power team of local environmentalists to Point Lobos State Natural Reserve off Highway 1, including:
- Julie Packard, Executive Director of Monterey Bay Aquarium
- Bill Leahy, Executive Director of the Big Sur Land Trust
- Chuck Bancroft, California State Park Rangers Association
- Cindy Walter, Passionfish Restaurant owner
