The French-sister duo Les Nubians filled the main stage area with smooth croons and an "Afropean" sound on Friday evening of the 53rd Monterey Jazz Festival.

For over the a decade, the sisters have been touing and performing all over the world, but 2010 is their first visit to Monterey for the annual jazz happening.

In 1999, their debut record, "Princesses Nubiennes," became one of the most popular French album in years with the help of hit single "Makeda."

Across the fairgrounds in Dizzy's Den, hip hop fused with jazz as a huge group of young musicians known as Jazz Mafia brought audiences "Brass, Bows and Beats"
