Pipeline Probe…PG&E’s top 100 riskiest stretches of pipe include two in Monterey County and a third along the San Andreas fault near San Juan Bautista, according to a list released Sept. 20. [RU]
Transit Tragedy…Monterey resident Sam Conboy was hit by an MST bus downtown and died a day later. The 87-year old was crossing Pacific Street at Del Monte when the accident occurred. [JJB]
Off PACE…After the federal block of CaliforniaFIRST, which would have allowed Monterey County property owners to pay for solar panels through a property tax assessment, the California Energy Commission has focused on a new program called Energy Upgrade California, which offers rebates and other incentives through stimulus funding. John and Me…Filmmaker Michael Moore will accept San Jose State University’s Steinbeck Center’s “In the Souls of the People” award next month. “My father would have loved Michael Moore,” says Steinbeck’s son Thomas in a statement released by SJSU. [RU]
Home school… Hartnell College, the city of Salinas and CHISPA teamed up to build an affordable home on a Soledad Street. They’ll follow StepUp2Green program guidelines on the project, which is due to be completed in December. CHISPA plans to sell the home to a low-income family. [JJB]
Bond Bonanza…MPUSD officially kicked off its campaign for a $110 million school facilities bond Sept. 14. Taxpayer groups have questioned the district’s wish list for the bond as well as its management prowess. [RU]
Marina Melee…A Marina man tried to swallow his cocaine stash when city cops came by to check on his kids. [JJB]
Tap the Savings…Conserving water nets more than karmic payback. Cal Am and the Peninsula water district are now offering homeowners plumper rebates for water-saving appliances and landscaping, from cisterns to graywater to lawn replacements. [KA]
