Best of Monterey Bay Visitor Guide 2011 – Welcome
The Best of Monterey Bay® represents two decades’ worth of readers’ polls, editors’ picks and insights from Monterey County Weekly.

Dozens of celeb chefs like Thomas Keller, Daniel Boulud and Tyler Florence collaborate to make Pebble Beach Food & Wine a singularly epic epicurean event. Runner’s World – and anyone who knows Highway 1 – describes Big Sur as the one marathon worth doing if you have only one to run. And those in the know, from as far away as Europe, call the Wildflower Triathlon the toughest, and perhaps truest, test for anyone serious about the sport, which is part of the reason it draws 30,000 participants.
In short, each event is completely world-class in its respective arena. And they’ve got more in common than that. All three events happen in Monterey County. This year, they all happened on the same day – like there wasn’t enough going on, between the antiques and seafood of Moss Landing, the shops, restaurants and beaches of Carmel, the exhibits of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the trails of Point Lobos, the dunes of Marina…
And it’s no aberration. In June, the 35th annual Monterey Wine Festival, 10th Annual Monterey Beer Festival and the 7th Annual Carmel Valley Art & Wine all happened on the same Saturday.
We’re lucky enough to call the absurdly active and spellbindingly beautiful landscape our home, and privileged, by profession, to know many of its magnetic ins and outs. This guide is our way of sharing the wealth. For more up to the moment insight, grab a free copy of the Weekly at one of hundreds of locations countywide, and get out there.
