Q: What’s taken for granted about the ocean? Brittany Harden

Street Talk 12.06.12 (asked in downtown Monterey.)

What’s taken for granted about the ocean?

Follow-up: What is the best part about living close to the ocean?

KAYT GREEN | Author | Pacific Grove

A: The otters and wildlife. People make choices that threaten the natural habitat. This area is beautiful, but it’s fragile, too.

Classic Call: Spending sunny days with my family on the beach.

JOSHUA PONKE | Retail I Salinas

A: Highway 1 along the ocean. I am certain that most people just drive by and don’t look at the water.

Left is Right: I come from Redding, so seeing the ocean is a privilege. I can go there and relax completely.

GUADALUPE AVILA-LOPEZ | Retired | Pacific Grove

A: Our impact. People don’t keep it clean. I see people throw trash, and then I see animals consume it, and unfortunately they die.

Home Again: I love the climate. It feels like it is summer in the wintertime.
