Best Hollow-Center Circular Snack Bargains (2012)
Marina Donuts and Bagels
266 Reservation Road, Marina
883-4527
These two carbo-load indulgences share more than just their shape. It’s the doughy texture—rivaling New York for authenticity—that puts these bagels on the map, and an equally spot-on flakiness that makes these donuts dangerously hard to go halvsies on. Add to the perfectly dense bagels slathers of thick cream cheese or generous heaps of meat or avocado, and for less than $3 you’ve got a filling power-meal for breakfast, lunch or both. Don’t be intimidated by the deservedly long lines at lunchtime; it’s worth the wait for quality and affordability, and these expert bakers should be commended for speedy service too. And while they also get creative—with offerings like spinach and jalapeño-cheddar bagels—it’s the old-fashioned seeded bagels that are easiest to get hooked on.
