The inconspicuous and unassuming mom-and-pop convenience store has reserved a perch amid the sloping neighborhoods of Seaside—and in locals’ hearts—for a long time because the flavors flying out and over the deli counter are anything but easy to overlook. Tri-tip, turkey and the infamous “Bomber” (packed with roast beef, turkey, ham and bacon) sandwiches are all done with surprising precision (if not speed). If visiting Philadelphia just to have a shot at the cheesesteaks is on your bucket list, scratch it off and head in before 5pm to sink your chops into the garlicy goodness of a Mal’s philly. All the deli salads, homemade cakes, crab salads, tasty enchiladas, chips and beer are there too, as are the Lotto tickets. But you have a much better—almost unavoidable, really—chance of winning with one of the sandwiches.
