Overcast skies and a wealth of conversation convened around the bar rail make this a good stand-in for Cheers. The neighborhood brewpub, green plaid and all, offers a view of steely tanks filtering sweet brown and creamy English ales next door. A sign over the bar reads, “Keep drinking! The brewery needs the barrels.” Ten house brews are offered year-round, from the lemony Big Sur Golden to the coffee-like Black Hound Irish Stout. A sea of porcelain mugs hang from the ceiling by hooks—the bartender knowingly snaps up the personalized mugs with a crook from the ceiling as locals walk in.
