Nader Agha

He’s got a personality right up there with Flava Flav’s, the kind of guy who calls professional women “my dear” and asks about their marriage prospects. He’s legendary for offering lavish gifts to strategic people. He conducts business in the midst of his antique collections, or in his car, or wherever he happens to be, his associates flitting about him like moths; he might even hum a sentimental little tune in the middle of it. It’s like a traveling circus with this guy, except instead of popcorn it’s stacks of cash. Just when he’s been quiet for a little while, he pops up with some sort of bombastic new proposal – like offering to buy the Herald, or proposing his own desalination plant at a bargain-basement price, or launching his own short-lived vanity paper (RIP, Monterey Bay News & Views). Sorry, Clint. Nader Agha gets our nod for the most colorful local character worth more than eight figures.
