Best Performing Arts Venue (2013)

Sunset Center

San Carlos Street at Ninth Ave., Carmel

620-2048,

www.sunsetcenter.org

Carmel’s immaculate, 700-plus-seat performing arts center delivered another stellar year of entertainment—and if you dig live music, the Sunset Center’s acoustics are killer. The son of reggae’s ultimate ambassador (Ziggy Marley) and legendary classic rock harmonizers Crosby, Stills and Nash had no trouble selling out the joint in 2012. And Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham reminded audience members to “Go Your Own Way.” There was also the world blues of icon Taj Mahal and the eclectic, banjo-led jazz of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones. Meanwhile, comedians Adam Carolla and Paula Poundstone swung by for a night of that good old-fashioned medicine, laughter.
