A New Look for Old Monterey: Talk of the Town: Mayor Chuck Della Sala (upper right) has plans for a renewed downtown that prioritize mixed-use developments like the Osio complex (upper left), the use of historic buildings for modern businesses like Montrio (lower left) as well as more benches and greenery to invite well-heeled pedestrians. The loss of more than 20 businesses to fire on Alvarado (far right, before the blaze) will make completing those plans much more difficult.— Jane Morba
