Big Picture: When a 72-home subdivision was added on Tanimura & Antle land on the northwestern edge of town in 2006, the number of households in Spreckels swelled by nearly 50 percent. Their designs echo that of the the original Spreckels houses, which were built on red-brick foundations that have survived two earthquakes intact.
