Words and Pictures: Steve Hauk, who favors a literary streak in his Hauk Fine Arts gallery, sits beside John Steinbeck memorabilia including the Roger Kastel illustration of the book East of Eden and a gun permit application by Steinbeck, who was then being persecuted in Monterey County for his books. He also champions films as a way for people to enter the realm of the artist, including Lust for Life (Vincent Van Gogh), Pollock (Jackson Pollock) and his own documentaries on California art, produced by Mac and Ava Motion Pictures of Monterey.
