Abandoned Royal Oaks Puppies Up for Adoption

Since their mid-November rescue, the seven puppies found abandoned in Royal Oaks have significantly recovered due to the efforts of dedicated SPCA volunteers.

Evidence suggests that the puppies were carelessly thrown over the fence of the Royal Oaks recycling facility, and were severely dehydrated, famished, and flea/worm-infested when found.

All but one of the three-month-old Australian Shepard mixes have been declared ready for adoption by the SPCA for Monterey County, one of which, Ernie, has already found a home. Five others, Grover, Elmo, Bert, Lily, and Zoe are still waiting for their forever homes and the seventh puppy Felix, who was found on November 22nd by Felix Cortez of KSBW, will be put up for adoption within the coming week.

While over 100 people have expressed interest in the adoption of these fortunate canines, the SPCA for Monterey County remains determined to provide them with best homes possible, as well as for their many other adoptable dogs.

"They're very friendly and smart, but will need an active family that wants to train them," says Beth Brookhouser, community outreach director for the SPCA for Monterey County.

While only seven families will be chosen to adopt the Royal Oaks puppies, Brookhouser expressed hope that remainder will consider one of their many other adoptable puppies.
