Local Dog Trainer and His Rescue "Bully" Hit National TV

Frisbees and flying canines are just the beginning of an improbable rescue story that ended in national recognition for local dog-trainer Jonathan Offi and pitbulls everywhere.

Last June Weekly intern Joey Large wrote an in-depth piece on Offi and his pitbull, star freestyle frisbee champ, Aztec. The acrobatic pup’s first place finish at the Freestyle Flying Disc competition at the western regional Purina Incredible Dog Challenge in San Diego automatically qualified Offi for the national championships last October.

Taking the national stage in the Midwest, Offi and his rescue pitbull Ruby took third in the 2011 Purina Incredible Dog Challenge National Finals held at Purina Farms in St. Louis, solidifying his rep as a world class dog trainer and, maybe more importantly, helping to disprove the stigma of violence that haunts the “bully” breed.

You can catch the spirited duo’s performance this Saturday, January 14, at 2pm on NBC.
