Labrador Tops List of 100 Favorite Dogs

Watch enough housewives-driven reality TV and you couldn't be faulted for thinking teacup poodles in purses and other similarly petit dogs are the dominant breeds.

But the definitive dog rankings show you'd be barking up the wrong tree.

The annual American Kennel Club numbers are in and it the nation pledges an allegiance to bigger dogs.

All five top dogs—ranked according to dog registrations made to the American Kennel Club from January-December—are at least as big as a beagle, which came in fourth.

The labrador ranks number one as Americas most beloved pooch—for its 22nd year in a row.

Following the lovable lab on this year's list is the German shepherd, the golden retriever, the beagle and bulldog.

The golden retriever moved up one spot, the rottweiler went from 10th to ninth, doberman pinschers from 13th to 12th, and the great danes from 19th to 17th place.

Not getting as much love, however, are the pint-sized pups.

The compact yorkshire terrier lost its 5th place spot. Dachshunds also dropped from ninth to 10th. Chihuahuas fell from 14th to 18th, pomeranians from 17th to 19th, and maltese doggies from 23rd to 25th.
