Bachofner edges out Rubio by 21 votes in final election tally for Seaside mayor

It's hard to recall a closer election in Monterey County.
With all the votes finally tallied, challenger Felix Bachofner has edged out incumbent Ralph Rubio for Seaside mayor by a mere 21 votes, according to the final official results posted on the Monterey County Elections Department website.
Although Bachofner held the lead on Election Night, the gap between him and Rubio narrowed in subsequent updates, and Bachofner was reluctant to claim victory until the vote was certified.
The Seaside City Council is expected to swear in Bachofner and new City Councilman Alvin Edwards at its meeting on Thursday, Dec. 2.
