Win Two Tickets to Carmel Valley Art & Wine Tasting with a Wine Quote

The Little League mantra "Everybody's a winner" never really worked for me.

But it's rapidly becoming the operating motto around the Weekly food beat.

Not because we've handed out so many tasty tickets to top-shelf events, though that does merit a moment. Last month Todd Stone won two $175 tickets to the Cooking for Solutions gala after his top sustainable local seafood dish (Schooners' angry prawn appetizer) won over 100 votes on the Weekly Facebook page. Last week Fred Hernandez won West Coast Clam Chowder Cook-off tickets for his caption for the man wearing a full-blown meat suit ("When you said you wished I was more like Kobe, I thought..."). Atwww.mcweekly.com/edible right now, two VIP tickets to Monterey Beer Festival will go to the best beer haiku. Back at Facebook, the most voted-for caption to a young eco-literacy student holding a carrot the size of a splinter (pictured above) wins $300 worth of tickets to maybe the most appetizing benefit dinner all year, Cal Stamenov's zero waste Dinner in the Vineyard. There's still time there, as the winner's announced at 5pm.

Everybody's a winner because the simple joy of crafting or reading a haiku about beer is beautiful.

C'mon, look at this one from Kelly Musca:

Bunnies, frogs, kangas/ Some cold fresh ones from the fridge/ Hops, hops, hops all day

Same for clever captions, like the kicker from Christopher Payne: "I paid WAY too much for those magic beans!" or the offering from John Cox: "I've been waiting for you, Obi-wan. We meet again at last. The circle is now complete. When I left you I was but the learner. Now I am the master."

Not that the contests are over. Far from it.

Between right now and tomorrow afternoon, the best wine quote - original or classic, from a wine legend or a local savant - wins two five-stop tasting tickets to Carmel Valley Art & Wine Festival 11am-4pm Saturday, June 9, in Carmel Valley Village.

Log a comment with you classic or cunning or clever quote or email it to edible@mcweekly.com. Best offerings win $50 worth of fine local wine experience.

(Note: These giveaways are often first mentioned on the Facebook page or in our InBox Lunch Foodie Newsletter, which arrives direct to your mailbox lunchtime Wednesdays. To join that list, email edible@mcweekly.com.)

All you do is Wine, Wine Wine, why do you let me have some for a change!

The other day someone was telling me they make ice cubes with leftover wine. I was confused. What's leftover wine?

L’acqua fa la ruggine, e il vino fa buon sangue! (Italian for Water makes you rust, and wine makes good "blood!")

"More wine!" -Julius Caesar

this one from Diana Darling:

“Sometimes when I reflect back on all the wine I drink, I feel shame! Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the vineyards and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this wine, they might be out of work, and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this wine and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver” ― Jack Handey

From Antoinette Saylor:

This quote from Julia Child was posted prominently for many years at the now sadly closed tasting room at Chalone Vineyards:

“With the possible exception of breakfast, a meal without wine is just not civilized!”

Cheers!
