CRBC Joins Sierra Nevada Brewing in Capturing a Guinness World Record

There is more to a world record beer chugger technique than a gaping throat or an iron gut. Or at least you realize as much when you see how specifically he holds the soon-to-be-empty pint glass just before it goes down the hatch. There’s also surprising finesse to what would seem a ram-it-home-type feat:

But the previous peek at beer drinking royalty is actually just a cool-down exercise compared to what Dr. Steven Petrosino did at the Gingerbreadman pub in Carlise, Penn., in 1977. It was at this modest house of brews he stamped his place in the Guinness Book of World Records by guzzling a liter of beer in just 1.2 seconds.

Petrosino isn’t the only challenger to set his sights on Guinness glory by way of the pint. In 2010 world-renowned head-balancer John Evans kept 237 filled pint glasses of beer balanced on his melon for an extended period of time to best previous records.

It is in this spirit of finesse and competitiveness—and great beer—that local culinary capitalists of Coastal Luxury Management are clearing out Cannery Row Brewing Company’s freezers and getting their taps ready to host some 73 beers from micro-brew monster Sierra Nevada from Nov. 15-18. That many taps under one roof from a single brewer will mean a place in the Guinness Book for CRBC.

CRBC will also be hosting special happy hours, interactive booths, beer breakfasts, a rare beer dinner and ounces of other beer-centric happenings all weekend. Jump to their Facebook page for more details.

Here is a list of just a few of the beers that will be on hand and on tap:

Torpedo - Southern Hemisphere - Northern Hemisphere - French Saison - 3 Bricks - Mersey Cream Stout 1/6 or 1/2 - Hellraiser Chocolate Chili Stout - Beer Camp 88 - Beer Camp 88 - Wood Aged Bigfoot - Stout - Porter - 2x4 - Huck Finn ish - Bravo Red - Solar Storm Ale - Anything Goose Ale - Cosmic Haze - Hop Syndicate - Baltic Joy - ApriQuat - Carolina Dreamin Ale - The Headliner - Sierrandipity - Ch Ch Cherry Bomb - 86'D - Altered - High Sierra Festival Ale - Knightro Irish Stout - Love at First Bike - Super V8 Imperial Smoked Porter - Bourbon Quad - Brandy Quad - Repoterrior Lager - BC Oatmeal Stout - BC Imperial Pilsner - BC Imperial Red Ale - BC Floral IPA - BC On the Rocks Scotch - Hoptimum - Estate - Narwhal Imperial Stout - Bigfoot 2012 -

And here are a few more awesome Guinness records—some so weird they must be shared in as many places on the web as possible.

It’s only fitting that the beer brewer that started the whole Guinness thing nailed down this record. That glorious glass of Guinness stout is eight feet tall and can hold 430 gallons of beer.

Then there’s this English dude, Ken Edwards. If you want this record all you have to do is eat more than 36 cockroaches in under a minute.

Ashrita Furman of Jamaica, NY balanced 81 stacked pint glasses on his chin for 12 seconds in August 2007. Pretty cool, but it would have been more impressive if he’d have done it while beer-bonging a six pack.
