The Weekly Goes for Platinum
November 28, 2011
Monterey County Weekly's staff have lots of opinions on the color of our newly repainted headquarters in Seaside.
Duck-egg yolk. Spicy mustard. Tuscan sunset. Subcutaneous fat.
But it's platinum we're after.
By decree of Weekly Chairman and CEO Bradley Zeve—who's prone to goofy eco-impulses, like outfitting the office roof with a 33-kilowatt photovoltaic system back in 2007—the building at 668 Williams Ave. is on track to become the first in the county to earn LEED-EB Platinum certification.
Guiding us in this journey is BuildingWise, which recently scored Platinum status for San Francisco's iconic Transamerica building. The consulting firm is also a tenant in Zeve's building, which makes it easy to heckle Project Coordinator Levi Jimenez as he works on our certification.
As for me—I just hope this means the newsroom will stop doubling as the building's walk-in freezer. Stay tuned for updates.
