Victory Toyota Breaks Ground on LEED Certification Project
May 4, 2012
Seaside’s Victory Toyota-Scion car dealership is the most recent addition to the area’s growing list of registered LEED-certified buildings.
Peter Blackstock, the auto dealership owner, introduced the project at the groundbreaking ceremony held this morning at the Victory Toyota-Scion dealership. Renovating the 33,750-square-foot dealership building is the result of a Toyota Image USAII campaign design. This LEED certification project is the next step to making their company more sustainable.
The idea is to reconstruct the auto dealership in such a way that minimizes environmental impact. The new design takes into account water and energy conservation, sedimentation control, and reducing contaminants that could end up in the marine ecosystems.
By positioning the dealership to face south they will be able to capitalize on natural light and heat. In addition the plaza and vehicle display area will be designed with porous landscape and hardscape material to maximize sedimentation control. Also, the car wash will utilize a water reclamation system.
Today’s groundbreaking ceremony puts teeth into Peter Blackstock’s statement, “Being ‘Green’ at Victory Toyota isn’t just a buzzword but will be a way of living that will drive the culture to be more innovative and environmentally friendly in our use of materials and operating methods.”
