With bands like MGMT topping charts worldwide, electronica-fused psychedelic rock is as hot as Lady Gaga's meat-made dress. Davey Pierce (pictured above), of of Montreal, another popular outfit that can be distant cousins of MGMT, brought his new side project, Yip Deceiver, to town on Saturday night with Sugar & Gold and Vibrant EYEris. Sugar & Gold frontman and Pacific Grove native, Nicholas Dobbratz (pictured below), also plays with Yip Deceiver and occasionally sits in with of Montreal during live shows. It's a totally incestuous thing these guys have going on that I'm not even sure I totally understand.
The Athens, Georgia-based band played a set laced heavily with computer-driven beats and cosmic tones. This nuevo-disco thing has obviously become a force of nature in the music world because the small, Monterey venue was at capacity. I guess in some ways, disco never died.
