(((folkYEAH!))) Brainchild Grabs a Nom for SF’s 2011 Readers' Choice Award and Launches 7” Label
July 5, 2011
If you’re a fan of music and live in California, there’s a good chance you’ve heard of Britt Govea or (((folkYEAH!))), his concert promoting brand that’s brought everyone from Fleet Foxes (Govea got a thank you shoutout on their recent release, Helplessness Blues) to Arcade Fire [MGMT and Explosions in the Sky are appearing in a couple of months at the Henry Miller Library) to remote and intimate locales on the wild Big Sur coast. It was more than six years ago that the curly-haired music geek found his calling while living on the Monterey Peninsula. He simply just started booking the shit he dug like Vietnam, Bonnie Prince Billy and Brightblack Morning Light, all of whom already had underground followings.
Recently, all Govea’s hard work has received recognition with a nomination—along with computer programmers, chefs and graphic designers—as one of 7x7SF’s 49 finalists chosen for 2011 Hot 20 Under (And Over) 40 Readers' Choice award.
“I have been nominated for the HOT 2011 list in SF for my (((folkYEAH!))) related music work in this area! I am both honored and humbled,” Govea said. You can vote for Govea HERE.
Important dates to keep in mind: July 6: 20 Finalists; July 13: 7 Finalists; July 20: Winner announced

But it doesn’t stop with putting on legendary concerts or garnering lofty award nods: Last month, Govea launched Spiritual Pajamas, a record label that releases limited edition 7" vinyl recordings. The first in the series is a one-time pressing of 1000 featuring Bonnie 'Prince' Billy paying tribute to country-folk legends Merle Haggard and Roy Harper with a cover of Haggard’s “Because Of Your Eyes” and Harper’s “I'll See You Again.”
I can't wait to see what the guy does next.

Britt Govea's work is the best thing that's happened to Monterey County music in the last 30+ years. Congratulations to Britt for recognition well deserved.
